Comanche came into this world in my arms. Pokey was having trouble and I found a leg back. David had her up while I worked to get the leg up and out. As soon as I popped that leg right the little one flew out of there in my arms. From that moment he was my responsibility.

As I glance out the window now I see Cindi  and Maxie grazing with Maggie. I remember Cindi looking for Comanche all day yesterday, calling several times. Comanche was a very special little boy. He was full of life and love. When Missy and Maxie were little Comanche took it upon himself to be their protector. He'd get so mad when their Mama's wouldn't let them play with him. Finally the day came when each could go off with Comanche and Cindi. He had to get Ms Missy out of several a scrape. One day I looked out the kitchen window and Missy was aggravating one of the goats. Before I could get out there Comanche arrived. He got between Missy and the goat (who was raising up very threateningly at her) trying to herd her away. She of course wouldn't listen so he had to give her a little nip to get her on her way. He suffered through those tiny hooves kicking back at him as hard as they could as they ran away.

Comanche looked so much like his Daddy and had both his parents spirit. He was into everything like this Mama, including our back pockets! Wednesday I noticed him go to the fence line where Pokey was. He stood there for a little while smelling her and talking. Then he laid down and took his nap close to her. That's the first time he'd sought out Pokey in a long time. I guess he was beginning to feel badly then and wanted his Mama.....

I know in my mind that there was nothing I could have done for him. It's not standard to run the kidney function test with an ulcer. But knowing all that in my head still won't change the ache in my heart and guilt from what Ifs in my gut. Realistically the damage was too far gone by the time he started showing clinical signs.

I mistakenly put Comanche Easter Warrior on his registration papers instead of Easter Spirit. His brother who was also born Easter Sunday is named Apache Easter Warrior. In the end he showed that he was indeed a Warrior and will always be our Spirit.
