Maggie's Progress
Maggie was injured in March 03. At first it was only a front shoulder affected. Then progressed to her entire body. The test showed it had to be a deep shoulder injury with nerve damage. This little girl has shown that she is her Mother's daughter! Katy, our Boss Mare, is her dam and she has inherited her strength and determination. Many other horses would have laid down and given up months ago. Not Maggie. She kept getting up when it seemed that she could barely walk. At one point during it all I was beginning to think I may have to make a heart wrenching decision for Maggie. But as long as she was fighting so hard I couldn't do it. So I kept fighting for her even though she was doing most of the work!
This is Maggie before the injury

Below is Maggie a couple of months ago. She kept her back legs under her and used them to bear her weight. At times she would even pick both front legs up and move them together. During all this she seemed happy and in very little pain.

These pics were taken of Maggie yesterday, April 04. She even ran a bit & I almost cried! I am beginning to feel encouraged for her future! Note her back legs are not being held under her body now!

Spring 2005 UPDATE!!! Maggie is doing SO much better! She left with Angie Cavalier for her new home in south Louisiana. I am going to miss Maggie so much but am so proud that she was finally able to go home with her. Below is a pic of Maggie from her new home a couple weeks after leaving. Isn't she looking fantastic?!
